Barn Conversion
This project involved the restoration of an old outbuilding into three barn-style dwellings. Thomas William managed this project from start to finish, working closely with the local conservation officer to ensure historical features were reinstated.
Build Components:
- Dismantle of existing building and saving original bricks for reuse
- Carpentry throughout including staircases, floor joists and roof trusses
- Fitting of kitchens and bathrooms
- Gas central heating, with underfloor heating throughout the ground floor
- Conservation Velux windows fitted to rear
- Handmade clay roof tiles
- Bespoke, timber, double-glazed windows and doors fitted
- Lime pointing to brickwork
- Retaining walls to gardens
Barn Conversion: Projects
Based in central Shrewsbury tucked away down a narrow access, we converted a former set of public house outbuildings into three beautiful barn conversions. Unfortunately the existing building wasn't structurally sound, so we began by carefully dismantling the existing building in order to preserve the bricks for reuse later on. The existing rear wall was temporarily supported with a steel structure whilst we completed the build.
Internally, we created a large, open-plan kitchen/living room, featuring large 600 x 600mm square floor tiles with underfloor heating throughout the ground floors. Shaker-style kitchens were installed with integrated appliances, including induction hobs and finished with solid oak worktops.
Externally, the property features bespoke, timber, double-glazed windows and doors, Conservation Velux windows, handmade clay roof tiles and the barns were finished with lime pointing to complement the properties' heritage and create a visually appealing set of properties.
Finally, due to the level of the barn, we completed the exterior with the installation of a retaining wall with steps down to the property.
These barns were finished to a very high standard and were all occupied within days of the work being completed.
